[PS4] The Last Of Us: Remastered

I just completed The Last Of Us: Remastered just a while ago. To be honest, the game did not appeal to me as much prima facie. What really made me want to try the game was IGN giving a 10/10! Now I have been following IGN and some of my most favourite games has only been given a 9 point something out of 10. For this to get a 10/10 and be called a masterpiece made it seem as if the game itself beckoned me to try it. So while staring at my stash, I decided to give it a go and see what was it about the game that deserves the full marks from IGN. As usual, this will be done without spoilers. Also note that the PS4 version is the remastered version so it is graphically nicer, hence my bias that the graphics are awesome.

Yep. The graphics are awesome. Honestly starting the game, it wasn't really wow. But as the game progressed, man was I engrossed in it. It was like I was trapped in the storyline, enchanted with no way to break free from it. It was like watching a movie. I wasn't some all-perfect superhero. It was just characters that were plain human beings. Their struggles, their choices, their situation, I guarantee that if you put yourself in their shoes, you would relate with what they go through.

The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. Now, I am a fan of zombie games so this theme does appeal to me. It is set at a time where people were getting infected and losing their minds. But can you imagine, for a zombie game, to take me out of the whole zombie thingy and focus on the characters and their growth? In fact, on hindsight, the game does not has as much zombies as one will expect from a zombie game like Left for Dead. But the game guides you and suddenly, without realising it, your focus isn't killing zombies but the characters themselves. Even the interaction with other humans can get so engrossing. More than anything, I don't even realise when it happened - I started sympathising with the main characters. I started to feel for the characters. Before you know it, its like watching a movie - and a good one at that. You see humanity at its most vulnerable state - in the state of despair and desperation, in a post-apocalyptic world, you begin to understand and sympathise the decisions they make, or the things they do. When life leaves you with no choice, we human beings adapt. This can also be seen in the characters of the whole story.

Starting off very distant, it came to a point that I could not wait to see how the characters and story developed. The game play, being dependent on the story line, allows you so much time to enjoy the scenery and the great graphics in the Playstation 4 remastered version makes the stunning views worth taking a moment and enjoy. Not only do the characters take a moment to enjoy the greeneries and beautiful scenes, but because the world is infected and chaos everywhere, even I as the player took a moment to enjoy the scenery - away from the broken and chaotic environment the characters were in.

All in all, I do agree with IGN. I give this game a 10/10. It is definitely a must try and you definitely will not regret it. The game comes with a side story - Left Behind, of which I am going to attempt now. Till then, definitely go get this game, whether the original Playstation 3 version, or even the remastered Playstation 4 one. You will not regret it.
